Location

The Club's training base is the Williamstown Athletics Centre located at Newport Park. The international standard synthetic athletic track was first opened in May 1991 and is regarded by many as the best track in the State.

The track is located on The Strand, Newport at the mouth of the Yarra River (Melway Map 56 B4). The Club has a new pavilion opened in November 1998 and named after former president and life member Graeme Morrish. It features modern changing rooms and toilets as well as meeting rooms and a canteen.

Williamstown Athletic Club would like to thank Telstra for their generous grant this season to purchase equipment for our venue and their support of the sport of Athletics in general.

USE OF ATHLETIC TRACK AND FACILITIES

The standards described below apply to all users of the facility to ensure fair access and proper safety procedures are implemented.

1.       Track Etiquette

·          The inside 2 lanes are to be kept clear for fast track work;

·          Track users must always be aware of other athletes when crossing the track;

·          It is necessary to clear the track when resting between drills/training so as not to interfere with other athletes training;

·          Resident athletes & coaches have right of use over non-resident athletes and coaches, i.e. track lanes are to be cleared when requested by resident athletes & coaches;

·          Bags, clothing or other personal property are not to be left on the concrete area in front of the pavilion so that they restrict clear access to the pavilion or do not allow athletes space to stretch and warm-up.

2.       Behaviour

·          All users must recognise the authority of officials from WLAC & WAC and comply with requests that they may make;

·          It is expected that all users give due respect to resident coaches and their athletes;

·          It is a preference that athletes training at the facility are competing for resident clubs.

3.       Facility Rules

·          No ball games are permitted within the boundaries of the facility;

·          Spikes are not permitted to be worn inside the pavilion;

·          No usage of resident clubs equipment unless specific approval is obtained;

·          Children not involved in training should not be allowed to play in the jumping pits, the track or infield;

·          Parents/spectators should generally remain behind the track perimeter fence.

·          Dogs are not allowed within the boundaries of the facility;

·          Smoking is not permitted;

·          Bikes, skateboard and roller blades are not to be ridden within the track and field area;

·          All users are to leave the facility clean and to deposit any rubbish in the available bins.

4.      Training Fees

·          The WLAC and the WAC have a signed Service Level Agreement with the Hobsons Bay City Council (HBCC) which includes the exclusive use of the track and field facilities and the Graeme Morrish Pavilion from 4.00pm Monday to Friday and all Saturday and Sunday.

·          All outside bodies such as schools, football and soccer clubs etc. that wish to use the Facility must apply to the HBCC. If their request is within the WLAC /WAC exclusive use time period, the Council officer receiving the booking request must obtain approval from the WLAC /WAC before the booking is confirmed. A hiring fee is paid to the HBCC.

·          Non-members who wish to train regularly during the Williamstown members’ time must seek approval from the WLAC and WAC and pay an approved training fee.
